WELCOME TO THE 4TH - 6TH GRADE

Hi I am Cecelia Fuller. In my six years at Zion Christian School, I have taught History, Home Economics, Girl's Bible and Third, Fourth, and Fifth combined classes. This year I will be teaching Fourth-Sixth grade classes.

4TH GRADE

Fourth grade is a review of what they had learned in Third Grade but more enhanced and challenging. They have Science projects, written book reports, penmanship (cursive) topic reports, comprehensive Reading, History, Science and Health. They are introduced to and work with all the parts of Speech, along with diagramming sentences. Arithmetic covers multiplication and long division through the 12 tables with 1-3 digit multipliers and 1-2 digit divisors, adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions, equations, measurement, converting measurement problems and more.

5TH GRADE

Fifth Grade does review a little but they learn alot of new things. In Math, they learn to add, subtract, multiply, and divide mix fractions. In Language, they learn how to do a research paper and be able to diagram more difficult sentences. History is learning the countries of the Old World and they will be able to tell what the capital of that country is. Science is dealing with more of a physical aspect, such as motion. They will also learn how an engine works.

6TH GRADE

This is my second time teaching Sixth Grade. The first time I taught Sixth Grade was the very first year I came to this school. In Sixth Grade Math, they will review what they had learned in Fifth Grade. The problems will be more complexed and more detailed. In Language, they will review how to do a research paper and actually be doing one. History will be learning the geography of the New World and learning the events that happened to make the New World the way it is today. In Science, they learn about nature and how nature helps us.

MISSION STATEMENT

It is the Mission of Zion Christian School to provide the people of our diverse low-income community, whose children attend our school, with a higher standard of education emphasizing academic excellence thereby enabling them to secure and improve their community socially, economically, and spiritually.
In accomplishing this mission, the Church School is utilizing the “A Beka Book” curriculum produced at Pensacola Christian College, Pensacola, Florida (established in 1974) due to the reputable history it has earned since it was first incorporated into the education of children in 1954 in Pensacola Christian Academy (formally, Pensacola Christian School). The A Beka Book curriculum has earned the respect of teachers across the country for its tendency to far exceed the requirements of public school systems. When compared by the Stanford Achievement Tests, students taught under this curriculum acquire consistently higher scores than the overall national test average, which includes scores from students of public schools as well as other private schools.
Zion Christian School will operate and maintain its goal to offer our children a learning opportunity that is not only free of gang and drug activities but that will also enhance their emotional growth and education, development opportunities in Physical Education, Technical Sciences, and the Arts. This will enable them to meet the challenge of an increasingly competitive environment.
Zion Christian School is a daughter organization of Lighthouse Baptist Church under the General Not for Profit Corporation Act of the State of Illinois in 1974, and is a 501 (c) (3) organization.
